Safety & Security training and exam at Schiphol

I got in the half past six train from Woerden to Leiden. I was very tired because I had to wake up very early. At Leiden I changed for the train to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. During my trip in the train I studied some of the training information, which we got in a booklet. The training centre was very easy to find, it was located in the World Trade Center of the airport. It was a little classroom, a canteen and an office. After a cup of coffee (which is great in the early morning!) the lesson begun.

Actually the topics were the presentation was about, were very familiar to me because I studied the whole booklet several times. After a break and another hour of lesson, we went on a bus tour at the platforms on the airside of the airport.

At the gate to the platforms we all got out of the bus, were they checked our passports. They also checked our luggage and we went through a metal detector. Since a couple of weeks there is a 100% security check at the airport, even for the employees. Luckily everything was ok, so we continued our tour. It was very interesting and impressive to see all those large aircraft, as we drove very close to them. I’m so excited that I’ll be working there for the coming two months.

The bus tour took about 1 hour, and we went back to the Training Center for an exam. This exam is required if I want to get an Schiphol-pass, which gives me access to a huge part of the airport. The exam contained 34 questions about safety and security matters. It was a lot easier than I expected, so I passed the exam. I waited for a couple of classmates and we went to Triport 2 were we got our pass. When everybody got their passes, we went to the KLM ID office at Schiphol East by bus. I showed my passport and for the second time today, they made a photo of my face for on the pass. Within 10 minutes my KLM-pass was ready to use. Tomorrow I have an instruction course at college, and then, it’s time for the real work.
