At the end of last summer, when the new school year started, I began my internship at KLM loadcontrol. This essential department of KLM's operation is accommodated in the Operations Control Center of the KLM at Schiphol East. Together with the other trainees the internship started with a training of two weeks, to learn the principles of loadcontrolling and to work with the software.

Using a desktop as an interface for web applications.

While developing websites and web based applications you always have to try to make a product that is easy to use, and at the same time has a slick, stylish look. Any user has to be able to work with it, whether it's an IT-professional or someone who only uses the computer at his office and doesn't have any more skills than text processing. I've written before that it would really help to use an interface similar to the desktop of Windows or Mac, as the user is already familiar with it.

Yellowbird: The 360 degrees video experience.

Recently a Dutch company based in Groningen presented their new video technique for capturing 3D video. The viewer of the videos is in complete control of what he wants to see. During the recording a Google Streetview alike camera records anything that happens, 360 degrees around the camera. The videos that are captured are processed by a bunch of powerful computers which compile it to one video. The viewer can watch the video in any direction.

Mini cruise to York with P&O Ferries.

Last week I went on a mini cruise to York (England) with my father and stepmom. I didn't went on vacation this summer so we decided to go on a small holiday of three days. I've been in England several times now, getting there with all possible ways of transportation like by airplane and high speed train. This time I went by boat, and it was pretty comfortable.
